Fran Kane Memorial Lecture: Impacting the Lives of Holocaust Survivors in their Later Years
FEATURING: Tova Friedman, LCSW, Holocaust Survivor, who will weave personal experience with her many years of clinical experience.

As the generation that survived the Holocaust approaches their final years, this workshop will offer insights into the emotional and social needs of survivors, their families, and caregivers.

Participants will:
• Increase understanding of psychological effects of oppression and trauma on its victims
• Understand factors that lead to and cultivate resiliency
• Provide intervention techniques for helping clients to overcome trauma
• Recognize the impact of aging and end-of-life concerns on survivors
• Discover the impact of trauma on the next generation — Adult children and Grandchildren

Speaker information:

Tova Friedman, LCSW is the former Executive Director of Jewish Family Service of
Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Counties and has over 20 years of experience providing
psychotherapy services and managing programs and agencies. She has provided
psychotherapy services to individuals, families, couples and groups. Tova, a Holocaust
survivor, shares her experiences in Auschwitz with many schools and organizations. Her
story and that of two of her friends appears in the book Kinderlager, edited by Milt
Nieuwsma, and published by Holiday House in 1998.

Frances Kane z”l, a long time employee of Jewish Family and Children's Service, was
one of the founding Care Managers for Senior Horizons. Fran retired in 1998 and
passed away in October 2004. Fran was a highly skilled and compassionate social
worker. She was knowledgeable in her job and knew how to mobilize resources on
behalf of her clients. She exhibited both compassion and competency and was loved
by her clients. Her dedication and commitment was remarkable.

Established in memory of Fran Kane z”l by Natalie Markowtiz, Fran Kane’s sister, the
purpose of this lecture is to facilitate continuing education for staff.
