JFCS is proud to announce that Barbara Lerner was the recipient of the Fran Kane Award at the recent Fran Kane Memorial Lecture which focused on Impacting the Lives of Holocaust Survivors in their Later Years featuring Tova Friedman, LCSW,Holocaust Survivor, who weaved personal experience with her many years of clinical experience.

In memory of Fran Kane, her sister, Natalie Markowitz established a memorial fund at Jewish Family and Children's Service whose purpose is to facilitate continuing education for staff.  Natalie Markowitz's contribution has allowed JFCS to have the Annual Fran Kane Memorial Lecture and the “Fran Kane Award.”  For four years now, Natalie has been honoring one staff person that exemplifies the qualities that Fran exhibited in her clinical work. This year Barbara Lerner was honored.

According to Nancy Fagan, the "Need Clearly Exists to Clarify the Issues Surrounding Reporting of Child Abuse."  The recent events involving the alleged sexual abuse of children by former Penn State University assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky and former Syracuse University assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine have made national and international news.
