JFCS is launching three unique afterschool volunteer programs that encourage children and teens to experience and learn the Jewish values of justice, service, and “repairing the world,” and provide opportunities to put these values into action.
Kids take a deep dive into Jewish history, culture, and values while learning from Jewish educators in the community. Each lesson will illustrate how Jewish values connect to service and include an interactive volunteer project such as creating greeting and recipe cards for homebound clients, organizing clothing donations for JFCS’ free clothing program, and making care packages for older adults and Holocaust Survivors.
Ages: For ages 8 – 12
Dates: Thursdays at 4:30pm, twice a month from February 18 – May 27

B’nai Mitzvah Program
Pre-teens looking to fulfill service hours in preparation for their Bar or Bat Mitzvah can take part in a variety of volunteer activities, available throughout the month. Opportunities include grocery delivery to homebound clients, clothing drives, virtual volunteering, and building relationships with older adults. B’Nai Mitzvah students can explore different volunteering opportunities or engage with a single service project to create a meaningful connection with programs and clients.
Ages: For any young person preparing for their Bar or Bat Mitzvah

Teens come together to create a short-term project to serve Holocaust Survivors in our community. Teens will hear from Survivors about their experiences and from JFCS staff about our Holocaust Survivor Support Programs. The group will then plan and implement a service project of their choice that gives back and enriches the lives of our Survivors.
Ages: 14 – 17
Dates: Kickoff on Thursday, February 18 at 5:30pm. Additional dates will be decided in conversation with teens (3-4 sessions total).
